FIRST LEGO League (FLL)

(4th-8th grades)
Directed by:
Mr. Jacob Eapen (HCS Parent)
Ignite interest in robotics and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)! Watch the thrill of learning through hands-on discovery with FIRST LEGO League. One of four STEM-learning programs from FIRST, FIRST LEGO League immerses kids in real-world science and technology challenges.

Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, or energy, and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®.  Teams work for about ten weeks in the fall and then compete at a regional competition where they present their solution to the year's problem and compete with their robot to score as many points as they can!

FLL is huge globally, with nearly 40,000 teams across the world and growing rapidly. HCS' history with FLL goes all the way back to 2006, with over 30 teams in the past 11 years. Three times our teams have won the Wisconsin State FLL Championship and competed in the FLL World Championship, with our 2013 team winning third place in the World!  But FLL is not really about the winning. It's about the learning, fun, teamwork and so much more that students get with a hands-on STEM program.

At HCS, we have all the computers, Legos and robot kits that teams need. We even have a dedicated FLL Lab. All we need now is you! Applications for the 2017-2018 FLL Season will be published in April.  Interest in our FLL program each year is quite high. The only way to guarantee your child can be a part of the program is to volunteer to become a coach.  To find out more about FLL at HCS, contact Mr. Jacob Eapen (HCS Parent) and for more general information about the program, visit the official FLL website
