Since the fall season of 2017, the Booster Club has recognized one outstanding athlete who has shown athletic success, consistent academic achievement, and reflects a Christ-centered servant leadership character with grace and humility.
Brady Schmidt is the recipient of the Outstanding Athlete Award for the Fall 2021 Season. Brady was a 4 year starter for our soccer team, the team’s captain in 2021, and the player everyone on the team looks up to for direction and words of encouragement. He was instrumental in making sure all players were preparing over the summer for the season. His servant's heart is constantly on display through the grace he shows his coach and his teammates. Academically strong, he has a personality that lights up a room or soccer field. Brady's coach noted, "You will not find an individual that will work harder, plays through pain and is as dedicated to his or her team as Brady has been to this soccer team. His effort is second to none."
Gabrielle Vanausdall is a 3 year veteran cheerleader who brought previous experience to the team and learned how to lead with grace and kindness while encouraging excellence on the competition floor and in the halls at school. Gabrielle found creative ways to honor others such as extra locker decorating and going out of her way to make sure team members know how to do well in their classes. As an athlete she has pushed herself to be better at every aspect of the sport. Gabrielle exemplifies the Heritage’s mission of being a servant-leader and we wholeheartedly endorse her as the Winter Outstanding Athlete for the 2020/21 season.
Logan Meinholz, Class of 2021, was named the Outstanding Athlete for the Spring 2021 season.
He was nominated by both his volleyball coach and baseball coach. As the baseball team's catcher, he was consistently complimented by umpires for his skills in blocking and appreciated by his pitchers for being encouraging. Logan was noted for his strong leadership skills, unwavering Christian faith, and representing his school, family, and God with humility and grace. With his natural skills and servant's heart, Logan embodies the title of Outstanding Athlete.
Jael King, '20, is a four year varsity volleyball athlete. She has shown outstanding leadership abilities both on and off the court. As Jael has grown as an athlete she has learned to lead more effectively. During the 2020 season she especially learned how to help make her teammates better athletes and how to help them grow. Her coachable spirit was seen in how she has honed her skills over the off season. During contact days she took coaching, absorbed it and advanced her skills tremendously. As a result, she has grown into an exemplary volleyball player and leader. It is because of her willingness to never settle and constantly grow that Jael has been named Heritage's Outstanding Athlete for Fall, 2020.
Alexandra Brown, Class of 2020, is the winner of the Outstanding Athlete Award for the Winter 2019/20 season. She was the captain of Heritage’s cheer team and displayed great versatility in every skills category. Alex leads by example with humility, commitment, a team-minded attitude, and God-centeredness; qualities that we are delighted to affirm with this award.
Tyler Towberman, Class of 2020, is the Outstanding Athlete for the Fall 2019 season. Ty, a
co-captain of the Varsity Boys’ Soccer team, is a true leader. Throughout his four years as a starter, he has shown his servant-heart through his care about others. Because of his
Christ-like example on and off the field, Tyler is worthy of this honor.
David Go, Class of 2020, was named the Outstanding Athlete for the Spring 2019 Season because of his excellence on the baseball diamond. As a pitcher he led the conference in strikeouts and innings pitched, while being a great source of stability and inspiration to his teammates. Demonstrating his versatility, David was a dominant center fielder and at the plate, he led the team in nearly every offensive category and held the highest batting average in the entire conference. David's quiet leadership both on and off the field, as well as his outstanding play make him a natural recipient of this award.
Makayla McIntyre, Class of 2019, was named the Outstanding Athlete for the 2018/19 Winter Season because of her hard work, dedication, and leadership skills both on and off the basketball court. She serves as a spiritual compass for her teammates, always ready to lend a listening ear and encouragement. Makayla is held in high esteem by everyone she plays with or is coached by, making her the ideal candidate for this honor.
Ezra King, Class of 2019, was named the Booster Club's Outstanding Athlete for the 2018-19 Winter Season. He was noted as a "coach's dream player" for his willingness to do whatever was asked of him. Ezra's positive attitude is noted not just by his teammates, but his competitors as well. The leadership skills he displays and the way he inspires others make him a very deserving candidate for this award.
Robert Obst, Class of 2019, was a 4-year starter and captain of the Boys Varsity Soccer team during his Junior and Senior years. Known for his ability to lead by example, he frequently played out of his natural position for the betterment of the team and pulled the team together during the summer for Captain's Practices. Because of his selflessness and enthusiasm for the game, it was easy to name Robby as the Fall 2018 Outstanding Athlete.
Caleb Taylor, Class of 2020, hit leadoff most of the season, pitched, played shortstop and centerfield on our Varsity Baseball team. His character is above reproach, and he exudes contagious joy whenever he takes the field. He is always looking out for his teammates' physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being. Caleb’s servant leadership and character have earned him the Spring 2018 Athlete Award.
Brandon Angles, Class of 2018, was presented the 2017/18 Winter Athlete Award because of his character on and off the court on our Varsity Basketball team. He was awarded Honorable Mention All-Conference during his senior year by the Midwest Classic Conference. Brandon showed tremendous growth as an athlete as well as a leader. He is very deserving of this award.
Raegan Vincent, Class of 2018 is the recipient of the Outstanding Athlete Award for the Winter 2017/18 season. She stepped into a young cheer team, embracing a leadership role throughout the season. She regularly provided help to problem-solve challenges that the team met along the way, ensuring that every member had the opportunity to grow. Her positive attitude and encouraging spirit makes Raegan an ideal candidate for this award.
Hailey Linton is not only a naturally talented athlete but also a humble, kind and giving teammate. From her encouraging cheers on behalf of her teammates to spiritual leadership on the Varsity Soccer team and investment in the Middle School cross country team, she exemplifies the Christ-centered leadership we strive for at Heritage. We are proud to grant Hailey the Fall 2017 Outstanding Athlete award.
