One of the most difficult things we endure in this life is our personal circumstances.  We can see them as blessings or curses, but what we choose to think reveals a lot about our faith.
I have troubles.  You have troubles.  All God’s children have troubles.  So why does God allow us to experience trouble?  If He really loves us, why doesn’t He just remove trouble from our lives?
When Gaylene and I were raising our sons, we could not make their immediate happiness our top priority.  We had to impose “trouble” on them – getting up, going to school, cleaning their rooms, feeling the pain caused by their poor choices, etc.  A deep and long lasting love compelled us to do things that were not pleasant for us or for them.
By faith, we can choose to believe that God’s intentions for our circumstances are to help us grow, not to harm us.  Through the Apostle James, He says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4
Let’s now consider our children.  Why might they have sour attitudes toward us when we lovingly bring “trouble” into their lives?  Of course, they are battling sin and immaturity like we are.  However, if we are revealing a bad attitude toward God because of our circumstances, could our children just be following our example?
As parents, we must believe with all of our hearts that God is for us and not against us.  He is helping, not hurting us.  Meanwhile, our children are watching, learning, mimicking, and becoming more like us than we realize.
